DAISY SINGAPORE PRESS CONFERENCE
It's the long black hair, the snow white skin, the almond eyes, that perfect pink pout and
those legs that go on forever. We're talking about none other than the mesmerizing Korean
actress Jeon Ji Hyun. This young Asian beauty has captivated audiences across Hong Kong,
Taiwan and has even earned a loyal following right here in Singapore. Ji Hyun paid our shores
a one day visit from her tight schedule to promote 'Daisy', the latest movie by acclaimed
Hong Kong director, Andrew Lau. Stompcast was there at the press conference mostly to ogle
but we also discovered how Ji Hyun approaches her roles, use her leading men on screen
and how she look forward to falling in love. Here's a little tip for her admirers, if you
really want to impress this woman, don't just send her a bunch of daisies. Send her a
great big tree. That's right. Ji Hyun loves trees and hopes to be just as strong and everlasting
in showbiz.
THE TWO MALE LEADS IN THE FILM.
I'm very honored to have worked with both Lee Sung Jae and Jung Woo Sung.
They're both very fine actors. With them on the film, it was a lot easier for me
to perform; they're simply outstanding. I would like to express my gratitude
towards them. They're both superstars not only in Korea but Asia as well. I really
respect them as seniors. With their accomplished acting, I hope more people will
support 'Daisy' and witness their great performances.
RELATIONSHIP WITH JUNG WOO SUNG.
Jung Woo Sung wanted very much to come to Singapore. But his schedule is too
tight; he regrets not being able to make it. Woo Sung is actually a very nice guy.
We did commercials together for 4 to 5 years and got along very well. He's a very
ideal screen partner; I've always wanted to work on a movie together with him but
we never had the chance. So I was really thrilled about this opportunity. The
filming went very well. Woo Sung is a bold person and very charismatic as well. I
only knew him to some extent during our commercials work. But through shooting
'Daisy', I've gotten to know him better. He's an excellent actor and I have a lot of
respect for him. I would also like to say that Lee Sung Jae is a brilliant actor
whose work I admire. Working on this film has been a great opportunity for me to
learn from these two actors.
ONE OR THE OTHER?
I'm quite greedy, I would like to combine both Woo Sung and Sung Jae into one.
That would be perfect.
WHAT WAS IT LIKE WORKING WITH DIRECTOR ANDREW LAU?
As Singaporeans would know, Andrew Lau is a very well-known director
from Hong Kong. 'Internal Affairs' was especially popular in Korea. When
I found out I would be working with him, I was very excited and really
looked forward to it. After the shoot, he was pleased with the result because
he could see a different side of me.
TELL US ABOUT ANDREW LAU'S STYLE.
Andrew Lau is a terrific person. His style of working and his personality are
both very open. He gave us actors plenty of artistic freedom. There was ample
space for us to flesh out our roles. I also think he's very cute.
FILMING CHALLENGES.
The difficulty came in grasping my character's feelings of being involved in
a love triangle. Other than this, I didn't face many challenges as the director
and my co-actors were all brilliant.
FACIAL EXPRESSIONS WERE VERY IMPORTANT IN THE FILM.
While reading the script, I found that part tricky. I wasn'y sure if I was able to
portray it well. On the set however, I felt rejuvenated. I used my eyes and body
language to express emotions that normally cannot be said in words. I was
able to convey a lot more of this character's feelings. This was a truly great
experience.
AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE WHILE ON SHOOT.
Besides filming in Amsterdam, we also shot in the countryside, where the
bridge, the film's important element, was. That was in a very remote part of
Holland. Cows were grazing on the completely natural landscape. It was such
a refresing feeling to be there. Other than that, my fondest memory came from
a little farm in that area, where I actually witnessed a calf being born. I was
thrilled and in awe at the same time. The locals decided to call the new born
calf 'Daisy'.
FLOWERS FROM ADMIRERES.=
I seldom receive flowers in real life. That's why I felt really lucky yo be
filming 'Daisy', fulfilling my wish. As for my favorite flower, I started to
love daisies in this film. I really love trees as well. They are so strong and
everlasting. I hope to be like that too.
DO YOU PREFER GOOD GUYS OR BAD BOYS?
One thing I have in common with my character in 'Daisy' is we disregard
external appearances; we follow our heart and let fate lead the way. I'm
prepared to face any scenario. A romance can be instantly ignited; it can also
be overlooked just like that. I would be lying if I told you I've never been
in love. But I'm looking forward to falling in love now. I hope that the audience
may relate to my character in 'Daisy'.
WHO MAY BE YOUR IDEAL?
I don't have any theories on this. I think love should be based on feeling.
As long as the feeling is right, I'll go with it regardless of the guy's traits or qualities.
QUIET DAISY GIRL OR LIVELY SASSY GIRL?
It's difficult to use just one word to describe anyone. Because all the roles
I've done were conveyed by me, the actor. I've found that there have been
similarities and differences. In my reel and real selves.
THE SASSY FACTOR.<
As an actor, I hope all my films are well-received. 'My Sassy Girl' or 'Daisy',
I hope that viewers enjoy the characters I portray. All actors have their
trademark and the girl in 'My Sassy Girl' was a fantastic role and experience.
Now even though that was a few years back, I'm flattered that everyone still
remembers that role so well. Thank you so much for your support. I'll definetely
try out more roles.
HIGH EXPECTATIONS.
It doesn't matter if it was past or future. All I wish is to do my best for
each film. The audiences' support is a heavy responsibility upon me to work
even harder to show my gratitude. My priority now is to just give my best
effort in my work.
YOU HAVE EYES THAT ELECTRIFY.
I'm grateful that as an actor, my eyes are able to convey so much expression.
This is a great compliment, thank you very much. While acting, I place
importance in getting across as genuine an emotion as possible. I'll work even
harder in future. Thank you for the compliment.
YOU HAVE MAY ARDENT FANS IN SINGAPORE.
I'm very happy I have such strong support from my fans here. I never
expected so many of you to come and welcome me. Earlier at the airport I
was very touched. Really should have come to Singapore much, much
sooner! My Singapore fans are very nice. They're a little quiet but I can
feel the warmth from their hearts. I'll come back to visit with an even
better film and show my gratitude. Thank you so much.
YOU ALSO HAVE A LOT OF KOREAN SUPPORTERS HERE.
I didn't know there were so many Koreans living here. This is my
first visit to Singapore and I have a very good impression. I'll bring
back many good memories. To the Koreans staying here, please continue
to support Korean cinema. I hope that everyone in Singapore stays healthy
and happy.
