RIDING THE KOREAN WAVE INTERVIEW
MALE HOST: One of Koreans hottest and sexiest star Jeon Ji Hyun was in Singapore recently to meet fans
and to promote her latest movie. Many know her best for the role in the movie 'My Sassy Girl'.
But shes hoping to make a mark with this movie 'Daisy'.
SUZANNE: I recently met her for a very candid one in one. Take a
look at the clip where I first start by asking her if she had difficult time being away
for two months in the Netherlands to film the movie.
JJH: It was fun and I had a good time. I had great partners like Jung Woo Sung
and Lee Sung Jae so that made everything easier. We worked with director
Andrew lau and his staff. I was really looking forward to it. The whole movie
was filmed in the Netherlands, a beautiful country. It was my first time
there, I really had a great time.
SUZANNE: In what ways are you similar to the character Hye Young, in the movie?
JJH: She is someone who follows her feelings closely. That is me in some ways.
I really had to study her carefully to understand her well. I constantly asked
myself why she would do this and for whom. Then I asked myself what I would
have done. I learnt a lot about myself and about life too. I'm a girl and a female
actress and there are many things I want in life. If you have it, I want it too.
In fact, I want more and something even more special and unique. But you realize, none of that
is important. You need to appreciate what you have now to understand the
real value of things. That's what I learnt from the character Hye Young in the
movie. We're similar in that way.
SUZANNE: This movie is about love among three people. Do you believe in destiny... in
destined love?
JJH: Yes I do. Whether it is love or people or other factors. Everything may have been...
but you should never be complacent and think you deserve any of it. You need to
do your bit and constantly work at it at all times.
SUZANNE: You're only 24 now but you've been in the business for about 10 years... am I right?
JJH: ...10 years?! (Ji Hyun laughs)
SUZANNE: Well, 10 years can be considered long or short depending on how you see it.
People say you're sexy and your popularity continues to rise. What do you think
is your appeal?
(Ji Hyun thinks for a while then laughed)
SUZANNE: Maybe its your sex appeal?
JJH: I'm not sexy but I'm thankful for such remarks. It's a compliment to hear that as a woman
and as a female actress. Because that also implies I'm very feminine. But whether its acting
or in my private life, I prefer to be myself and go with the flow. Nothing fake and nothing deliberate.
What's most important is probably my image off screen. You need to manage that well and
just be yourself.
SUZANNE: You topped the list in Korea as the actress with the sexiest butt, in other words, rear. (Ji Hyun laughs)
How does that make you feel?
JJH: It's true so I won't deny it. I welcome those remarks. (Ji Hyun laughs)
SUZANNE: What do you do to keep yourself in good shape?
JJH: I exercise regularly. I didn't do so in the past but now I do. After I came back from the Netherlands, I
became more aware of my body. I watch what I eat as well.
SUZANNE: When it comes to marketing yourself, what kind of an image do you want to portray?
JJH: You could say this is my strength or my weakness. I like to be myself, just the way I am. People
will eventually know what kind of a person you are. Even though they may only see you in the movies
and on screen, they will find out who you are, what you're like. It will show and that is something you
can't hide from.
