Pusan International Festival Interview
On the popularity of her films in Asia.
First of all, the current culture, the stories that young people are creating today,
they are stories that really stand out, and the films I have been in reflected that
progress. Having those things, I think they broke the mold of the kind of stories
that are told in Korea. I think its because they have those qualities that they are
popular with everyone in Asia.
On the rise of Korean Films
In my opinion, it's not like this suddenly happened. Honestly to the Korean people,
those working in the film industry they don't think there's much of a difference.
Throughout that time it has built up, I think the love that Korean audienes have
had for Korean films is strong and becoming more apparent step by step and it's
the result of that. Honestly, from the viewpoint of the Korean audiences, I don't
think there's really a difference.
I think we have to continue forward with what we have been doing. With a little
more diversity in the material as well as with the actors doing more work.
On her popularity
It's not like when I'm at home and wake up and feel how popular I am (laughs).
Even before I came here, I've always kept the same kind of life. The Pusan
International Film Festival is something I've always heard about it, so it was nice
to come out here with a good film, and I'm very happy about that. So, regardless
of whether meeting people or not is not something I really feel.
Rather to say that it's me, I feel like Korean culture and Korean film has progressed
a lot and that what makes me feel proud.
